Early Years

Nursery and Reception are such an important part of the life of Oulton Broad Primary School.  They are the introduction into schooling for our children, and often the first time that little ones spend any time away from their parents.  It's vital that we understand the significance of this milestone in the life of any family, and work to help the children gain lifelong learning skills and behaviours that will develop their many talents as much as possible.

The first way we do this is by making sure all the staff who work in Early Years in our school are as skillful as possible.  All of our adults are well qualified and experienced, but above all thoroughly enjoy spending their time with our children.  These regular, high quality interactions build on the learning and play that the children do throughout the day.

Regular directed learning activities with adults are planned for every session, and the regularity of these increase as the children develop during their time with us.  A regular question we are asked by Easter is, 'can we go and do our maths learning now please?'

By the time the children leave reception and go into Year 1 they see themselves as learners and that school is somewhere you go to learn, and that learning is fun.  We believe that this is the greatest gift we can offer your children.

The most joyous sound in the world is the sound of young children being excited by what they are learning.  If you're looking for Mr White or Mrs Fox, often a good place to start looking is the nursery or reception classrooms as they will often retreat there to share the wonder of learning with our youngest children.
